Artist Statement:
Deborah is a native New Englander who was born with the love of nature and art, and pursued a career in ceramic tile
painting after college. Murals, back splashes, and framed wall pieces all reflecting her love of the sea and animals, can be found in
southwest Florida, particularly in the Sarasota area where she lived and worked for thirty-five years.
The jump from ceramic tile to kiln formed glass was easy and exciting. Deborah has been working with that medium for three
years now and is constantly discovering new techniques and patterns. The new work is called fused glass and is done by cutting
brightly colored glass into small pieces and patterns and melting them in a kiln at 1500 degrees F. Decorating is done with "frit" (small
grains of glass), dichroic pieces (which look metallic and iridescent), and "stringers" (which look like colored spaghetti strands of glass).
The possibilities are endless and when added to the welded copper the effects are stunning.
